Happy Thoughts for March 28th, 2010

Things that are making me happy today:
  • This nasty cold I've had all week is starting to clear up.
  • I get to see my wonderful boyfriend today <3
  • We're going to a drive-in movie on Saturday. We've been talking about going for forever so I thought it would be the perfect thing to do to celebrate our anniversary.
  • Our two year anniversary is this Sunday <3
  • I stumbled upon a bunch of really really cute craft tutorials on YouTube. They have me feeling so inspired.
  • I didn't finish up a few of Trevis's birthday presents last week so I get to give him a bunch of stuff this weekend. I hope he likes everything.
  • I've been having so much fun blowing bubbles and watching my cats run around trying to pop them.

    The End

    Dear Lost,

You've been in my life for six years. I'm sad to see you go but I don't think I'd have it any other way. You've been challenging and beautiful. I'm sorry I was grumpy at you for a few days, I was just having a hard time letting go. You've changed my life in so many ways, thank you for everything. There will never be anything else like you.

    Namaste

    It is almost ready

I just finished packing some goodies bags for my shop opening. Before that hubby and I went for massages in Hide-A-Bean. I feel pains and aches all over body but I know I will feel great afterward. And a good night sleep too.

I went to check on my shop this evening. It is almost completed and today contractor came to install the cctv, LCD tv and computer system. So early tomorrow morning I would start to clean the shop. The stocks should be arriving in the morning around 9am so I need to wipe the dusts from my display shelves and mop my shop before it arrives. After that I have about a day to ready for the opening on Saturday. Oooh! I am going to be very busy from there onwards. So, good night everyone!

    Show it to me!

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and the glittering dust has finally settled. I have been mentioning that I would be attending the annual Surtex Show in NYC last week. This is a show for artists like myself who find manufacturers and retail companies to create products together.

This was our fourth year in attendance and I believe if you scroll back though my blog you will see my booth displays over the last three shows. This year, once again we packed up the van and headed to the Big Apple. We are inevitably the last booth to set up and, yes, the last booth to take down.

Many of the artists at Surtex have figured out the convenient basics of displaying for this show, but, oh, not me. While I know they have insight into how to display for the market, I somehow have this little voice in my head constantly saying, “make it more difficult, make it more complex, make it drag out for an entire week.” And with my dear husband always supporting my decision to do it my way, once again my booth became, I think he called it, “the little boutique at Surtex.” Here are the photos of the booth.

The collections I chose to display this year are from right to left: Child’s Play with Kate & Nate, taking up the first three displays, pink, gold and green; A Woodland Christmas, in the corner and to the left of it; Wee Gather Together, in the middle on the back wall; and ModTod, on the left.

The remaining collection that I displayed is in the left corner and around to the left side of the booth. That collection is Woodland Tails.

I want to thank all of those who stopped by the booth. We have been going to this show enough now to see and enjoy friends who also attend each year. It’s always a fun reunion. We also have the privilege of meeting with companies we currently work with and potential clients we are fortunate enough to make acquaintances with.

There is one other group of people I always look forward to meeting. They are other artists who have the same interest in the show which I did five years ago. There is nothing more encouraging than meeting other artists. If it weren’t for the friendly artists I was able to meet before I exhibited at my first show I would likely not be attending to this day. One of the wonderful things about Surtex is the camaraderie that I and many of my friends feel while attending this show. Everyone is friendly, everyone is encouraging, and everyone is in the same boat, doing what they love most, creating.

Until next year, here is to my artist buddies and all of those who I was fortunate enough to visit with at the show this year. Best to you all. Shall we say—same time next year?

    School of terror

Read upon this shocking news about one school in PM where its students are committing intimidating acts, as reported by The Star. When one read it, one would be wondering what is happening in schools nowadays. What is shocking is that the teachers and school authorities are powerless over such incidents. Hooliganism and gangsterism are common in that school and nothing has been done so far in addressing such issues until recent investigation by the Education Ministry. Before this, no one want to report to the relevant authorities. Are those students really fearless?

How those students can commit in such acts in first place? What influence or drive them to do them? It makes me wonder about choosing the right school for my little gal. She would be turning 5 next year and it is compulsory to register your children to your preferred primary school when they turning 5.

It makes me think back about my school days where gangs are not that common. I remember schools used to be fun. Popular girls and popular boys used to be the top talk in school, not "this gang, that gang". I think the most trouble students can give teachers would be vandalism especially the classroom furnitures and washroom facilities. Other than that, I never hear of hooligans or gangsters during my assembly. How about you?

    Kids vs grandkids

Don't you ever wonder the way your parents treated you when you were young and the way they treat your children now? Are they the same?

I used to strict parents when me and my siblings were younger then. Even the time we were to gone to bed were monitored closely. By 9pm, everyone must gone to bed if it is a weekday. This rule even followed suit till I were in my teens and adulthood. Old habits hard to kill, right?

Back to the treatment, I still feel that grandparents tend to treat their grandchildren differently. For instance, the caning is allowed when we were younger. However when we mentioned the word "caning" and its implementation to our children, both grandparents opposed to such treatment. So to say that they approved and implemented caning on their children, but a "no no" for their grandchildren. And sometimes the way we teach our children were to be judged.

Grandparents really treat grandchildren differently. With their own kids, they tend to be stricter but with grandchildren, grandchildren are like a whole world to them. In turn grandchildren knows when to please their grandparents. Like for instance my daughter. She knows her grandparents love her. So if me or hubby is to scold or does not allow her something, she will complained to her grandparents. And in turn, we get the scolding from the grandparents. That is how the circle started.

    Heart monitors, minigolf and birthdays...

Where to start...last week I was given a heart monitor to wear for three weeks because I've been having heart palpitations and pain for years but haven't been able to figure out why. Wearing it hasn't been too much of a problem so far. It's a little uncomfortable because I have to have the sensor hooked up to three electrodes that are on me pretty much all the time (the only time I take it off is when I shower). I really really hope they figure out what's wrong and know how to make it better. It scares me and makes me feel so drained when my heart starts to beat irregularly.

Happier things...last Friday I went and played minigolf with my boyfriend and two of my best friends. It was soooo much fun. We golfed and went on bumper boats and played a bunch of games (woo skeeball!) My friend Emily won 1000 tickets from one game! She also made and gave me the cutest stuff robot.

    See?

I saw my boyfriend on Wednesday for a birthday dinner for him with his family. I'm so glad I got to see him in the middle of the week even if it wasn't on his actual birthday (which is today). I'm spending the weekend with him so he'll get some of his presents from me then. I'll try to take pictures of them to post later.

Here are some more pictures from last Friday:

Happy Thoughts for May 18th, 2010

Things that are making me happy today:
    • I was stressing over silly stuff earlier so I took a nice long bubble bath and now I feel relaxed and ready to take on anything.
    • After the bath I put on some of my favorite lotion and gave myself a manicure and a pedicure.
    • I get to see my boyfriend tomorrow for a dinner with his family for his birthday.
    • Things I've been working on are finally coming together nicely.
    • My mom found setlzer water for me. I've been mixing it with juice, it's super yummy. I really want to try the lemon lime seltzer water, hopefully I can soon.
What's been making you happy lately?

    Much alive

Many agenda in my head now. Getting ready for the shop is my priority but my kids are not feeling well and hubby's aunt is visiting from Brunei.

My girl has been sick since Sunday and she still having fever now and then. She has been absent from school two days. Tonsilitis. Now my Baby Jay has started to cough too. Gosh! The virus is spreading again. I am tired thinking about both kids' health. Sigh!

Hubby's aunt who diagnosed with cancer was flown from Brunei for treatment and chemo in General Hospital. My concerned MIL flew over last Friday one hour earlier than my flight. She is back in hometown now but will be flying over again this Friday as hubby's aunt is going for her first chemo therapy that day. So my SIL is busy driving back and forth the hotel to visit her aunt and bought her food. Luckily the aunt has her two daughters to accompany her but one flew back to Brunei to attend to her business this afternoon.

Every year I always wish for good health. Stay healthy is one of my resolutions. Seeing or hearing so many relatives or friends diagnosed with cancers and few passed away from it are scary. Health is important. Without it, nothing would be meaningful. So again I nag hubby to be health conscious; stop smoking and go for exercises. His side of the family has cancer background so chance of him getting one is high. Coupled with unhealthy habits there is a reason for me to be very concern. Sigh!

    Feel good

Don't you feel good when you wake up in the morning in an unfamiliar place and receive a encouraging message from your loved one! I did!

Woke up pretty early (the usual time at home) before 7am. Since cannot dozed back to sleep, might as well switch on my notebook and facebook-ing. I usually off my handphone at night before I go to bed, so this morning when I switched on my handphone I received a nice sms from my hubby. It said "I know how hard you work to take care of the two kids. I admire your strength. Let;s work hard for the children future." :) Doesn't it put a smile to your face?

It just keeps me going and I know that I am being appreciated and all my efforts and sweats would not go down the drain.

Last night I dreamt about my new shop! Gosh! All those anxieties. I remember I was fussing about the display and looking anxious and confused in my dream. Hope it would not be like that when I really open my shop end of this month! Lol!

Happy Thoughts for May 10th- May 16th, 2010

Things that made/ are making me happy this week:
    • I found one of my favorite pink nail polishes and painted my nails.
    • I also repainted my toe nails with one of my absolutely favorite combinations, black with blue glitter polish on top.
    • My boyfriend has this week off from school so I get to spend more time than usual with him <3
    • I'm slowly getting more organized and finding my direction again.
    • I found my cellphone charger (it was missing for almost two weeks!)
    • I finally found a doctor that took me seriously when I brought up my heart beating funny. I'm getting an event monitor that I'll wear for a month and hopefully from that they'll be able to tell what's wrong (finally).
    • My boyfriend is taking me to get the monitor even though it's a super early appointment (he's so sweet). He's also bringing me breakfast so I don't have to worry about getting food for myself.
    • My friends, my boyfriend, and I are going to play mini-golf on Thursday!

    Some shopping and eating

I have fully recovered from all the tiredness and stiffness. Feel more refresh after a good night sleep last night. Today I do not feel tired during the training. Or probably the pyschology side of going to go home soon make me more awake throughout the day.

Nothing interesting this week, besides sitting in front of computers, learning how to operate POS. While I were in Mid-Valley last weekend, I took the opportunity to visit the Mum & Baby Expo there. Thought people over here would not wake up that early but by the time I reached the exhibition hall at around 1030am on Sunday, I had a shock. It was packed like sardine cans.

Either I like it or not, I have to squeeze myself through the crowds and look around for offer bins. The wedding expo was on the other hall which was not that pack. So the parents here, some with babies in strollers were busy digging through the offer bins, checking out the promotional items and attending a parenting talk. I did not take much time there since I only have few minutes to spare. Managed to get 4 sets of long sleeves shirts and long pants for RM40 and training toothbrush (forgot the price) for Baby Jay and a shirt for little girl for only RM8.

Last night after my training, I took monorail to Times Square. You can say I know the route of monorail and expert in taking trains by now. *wink* But it was a mistake. I forgot the time. By the time I reached the monorail it is almost 6pm and was packed with people! So again, I have the feeling of being one of the folks here, squeezing myself into the 2-decks monorail. Gosh!! I was surprised that KTM started its first (I understand the first in Malaysia?) commuter deck for ladies only. I have not have the opportunity to sit into one, but I applaud KTM for its effort but I wonder how effective the campaign is. It sounds like gender discrimination and would not solve the congestion during peak hour where men would need to go into the female-only decks.

Anyway, back to my Times Square adventure. I did not spend much time there. Stayed for an hour since today is another busy day. My intention of going to Times Square? Just want to explore the part that I did not do so many years ago. The theme park and eat my favourite food there. Maybe some day I will bring my kids to the indoor park. Hardly can see much from the entrance.

Next stop! Shihlin Taiwan Snack Street. Yes! Its xxl crispy chicken and oyster mee sua. It took me almost 30 minutes to find that little shop lot although I had floor directory with me. I know I were greedy. I have the mee sua there and take away the chicken to the hotel room. While enjoying my new story book (which I bought for RM5 at Carrefour), I had my crispy chicken on the bed. So you can say I am gaining some weight, but who cares. Let me go back to Kuching and start losing some fat there. Lol! But by then, I would be busy with my shop opening and do not have time for any exercises and indulge in good food.

Talking about food, I am having some Gardenia's ChocoRaisin bread for dinner. My favourite. I have finished almost half the loaf while blogging. *wink* And it was a surprise to read that the brothers, Dan and Jordan won the current Amazing Race. I did not have the privilege to watch the finale and was sad to know the cowboys lose. Oh well, least expect the brothers to win this season.

    ’Tis the Reason

It is that time of year again when the cold winds blow, and the icicles hang from the eves, and all of nature is covered with a beautiful blanket of white. Well, at least pretend those winds howling outside are from the winter blizzard and not the tornado or hurricane you are having where you live. We are actually having that weather as I type, and I wonder as the lights flicker if I’m going to still have electricity to finish this entry.

Oh, but if the lightning strikes and the candles are lit it will fill me with the happy thoughts of curling up by the fire, hot cocoa in hand, while preparing for the beauty of a winter wonderland. And that’s what I have been doing for the last few weeks.

As silly as it seems, it is the time of year to get into the Christmas spirit. Admittedly, it is a little hard to achieve this time of year when all I want to do is get out and get a little sun. But, when the joy of Christmas overflows into a magical, woodland setting, all I want to do is step into the scene and enjoy the enchanted forest.

Maybe this Woodland Christmas collection will also beckon you into its land of enchantment where birds sing and rabbits scamper and a squirrel becomes your favorite pet. It’s a little Disney, it’s a little Dutchy, and it’s a little dainty.

Once you step out of the forest you will see that it’s not all syrupy sweet. There are florals and stripes and snowflakes and trees to balance out the charming woodland creatures and their winter maiden. Have a look below and you’ll see what I mean.

This is the collection, at least the spring edition. But who knows, as the cold winds blow in another six months the maiden may happen upon her beau somewhere in that winter wonderland.

Just in case you needed another dose of sugar, I have also saturated these ornaments with the charming woodland creatures.

Music Monday: How To Destroy Angels

How To Destroy Angels is a collaboration Trent Reznor and his wife Mariqueen Maandig (I love her name). Just from the one track I've heard on Pitchfork (you can listen to it here) I can say that I'm super excited to hear more. It reminds me a lot of Portishead or Massive Attack (both of which I would recommend). Mariqueen's voice is so soothing and ethreal and blends with the soundscapes created so well. I love it. One of the first things I thought after listening to the track was that I wish I had more to listen to while I painted. It's the perfect dreamy music to listen to when you're in a creative mood. I can't wait until they release their EP.

What I did past few days

What I did on this year's Mother's Day......Training in the centre the whole day. I just got back from the centre, took a shower and take some times to blog. As matter of fact, today is my last practical training. Tomorrow is another new day with new computerised training. Now I am counting down till next Friday before I take a flight back to my family.....*wink*

My training was in Mid Valley Mega Mall while I am staying in the KL city area. So every morning after breakfast in the hotel, I took monorail to KL Sentral then transit using KTM to Mid-Valley. In the evening after closing around 1030pm, I took a cab back to the hotel, which is about 20 minutes ride if no jam. So every night I reached the hotel after 11pm.

Tired legs, sored feet and stiffed neck are what I have now. Gosh! Just 4 days I already want to surrender. Hahaha! Thank god the trainer is a nice lady, full of patience and understanding. I have a long way to learn before operate my own shop.

So how is your Mother's Day celebration? Hubby just wished me a "Happy Mother's Day" which cause tears in my eyes. Me sitting in my bed with a laptop on my lap, thinking about them while typing this post......*Sob* Away from family on Mother's Day. I miss them.

Inspiring Me Now: Gaga's Pretty Pink Bow Nails

I adore Lady Gaga's nails in this picture. Once my nails have grown out and gotten stronger again (about 4 of them decided to split all at the same time >.<) I will definitely be trying this. I think it's a perfect look for spring or summer. Simple, girly, and super cute.

Happy Thoughts for May 5th, 2010

Things that made me happy today:
    • My boyfriend is done with school this semester so I get to spend more time with him. I'm so so excited!! ^_^
    • I really like the new skin care products I've been using (I'll put up a review soon, I want to use them for at least two weeks before I do.)
    • I was able to get some cleaning done yesterday.
    • The frequency of my migraines has gone down in the past month.
    • I'm really excited about my boyfriend's birthday that is coming up very soon <3
    • When I was using a little Hello Kitty notebook to write a list of things I need to pick up from Michael's I noticed there was a sheet of stickers in the back. I'm a sticker fiend so I was super excited to find them.
    • I've been working on a painting for my mom for Mother's Day and I'm happy with the way it's turning out so far.
    • I found this super cute cooking channel on YouTube. I might have to buy some of this girl's cookbooks. Her channel also has videos of her cat and some about Japanese culture and shopping and things like that. It's a good mix. I'm really hoping to find more resources that are similar soon. Finding sites and videosh that are about home ec/ homemaker type things that are also modern and fun is surprisingly hard. I'd like to find things that aren't just about cooking and fashion (even though I really like those things.) Maybe I'm just not using the right search terms. If you have any suggestions please let me know what they are I'd be so grateful.
What's been making you happy lately?

Gather around and pretend it’s autumn

It hardly feels like autumn outside as the trees are fully green and flowers are popping up everywhere. Yet, here in the studio I crank up the air conditioner, put on a sweater, and imagine autumn breezes twirling colorful leaves about me. So, if that’s what it takes to get in the mood for an autumn collection this time of year that’s okay, because I love just about everything there is about autumn.

I have always wanted to create a collection for this season that is a little bit harvest, a little bit thanksgiving, and a lot of little bitty. Therefore I give you Wee Gather Together.

It doesn’t matter what the season is; if I hear the tune from the hymn We Gather Together I am instantly drawn to my childhood and right back to the Thanksgiving table. I can’t think of a song that better fits the season for giving thanks, and I can’t think of a name that better fits this menagerie of little creature gathering for their harvest.

The complete collection is shown above and below are a few of my faves from the set.

      Flying off again

I would be flying to KL this evening and be away for 10 days. My final training before I pass and obtain my shop operation in Kuching. Final training is always the toughest one but hopefully I pass with flying colours. *wink*

Since I would be in KL for 10 days it means for the first time I would not be celebrating my Mother's Day with my family. Oh no! Instead I would be doing my training for 10 days non-stop.....Pity me.

Nevertheless, I would like to wish all mothers and mothers-to-be "Happy Mother's Day".

      Eat your fruits and veggies

How much more would I have liked eating my peas and carrots when I was a kid if only they would have looked like these? When you love colors, and patterns, and textures, and shapes as much as I do, you even want it in your food. Sure, the taste, that matters too I guess, but it’s the look of these veggies that would have made me more willing to eat them as a kid.

This is a collection I first brought you last spring. You can learn more about it on my posting from April 3, 2009. The collection is called Organic Fruitation and has been developed for the kitchen, outdoor kitchen, gardening area, sunroom or any place you like to go picnicking or go organic.

Much of my style of illustration is done directly on the computer, but this collection gave me the opportunity to get my pen and paper out and doodle around, play around really. I even started to feel a little organic myself. Au naturel!

This is the complete collection with a few additional ideas for the cook in the kitchen. Many of the patterns could also work well for gardening supplies and outdoor lawn furniture.

To Make Up For the Downer Post From Earlier...

      How about something beyond sweet?

Local boy with cancer turns into a superhero for a day

      Seattle Times Eastside reporter
Thursday was shaping up to be just another school day for 13-year-old Erik Martin, but then something extraordinary happened: Spider-Man called.
Spider-Man happens to be one of the few people who knows that Erik, too, has a secret identity — he's Electron Boy, a superhero who fights the powers of evil with light.
      And Spider-Man needed Erik's help.
Erik, who is living with liver cancer, has always wanted to be a superhero. On Thursday, the regional chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted him that wish with an elaborate event that involved hundreds of volunteers in Bellevue and Seattle.
The local chapter, which serves four states, grants more than 300 wishes every year to children with life-threatening medical conditions, but only a few of them involve so many participants.
Pulling off a wish like this one required a big story, and a lot of heart. And so, with a note of panic in his voice, Spider-Man explained the dilemma: "Dr. Dark" and "Blackout Boy" had imprisoned the Seattle Sounders in a locker room at Qwest Field. Only Electron Boy could free them.
Erik got into his red-and-blue superhero costume, and called on the powers of Moonshine Maid, who owns a DeLorean sports car. For good measure, more than 20 motorcycle officers from the Bellevue Police Department and King County and Snohomish sheriff's offices escorted Electron Boy to Seattle.
"They shut down 405 — they shut down I-90," marveled Moonshine Maid, aka Misty Peterson. "I thought it would just be me, in the car."
At Qwest Field, Electron Boy was directed by frantic fans to the Sounders locker room, where the entire team was shouting for help behind jammed doors. With a little help from Lightning Lad, the alter ego of local actor Rob Burgess, Erik opened the door with his lightning rod. The Sounders cheered.
"Thank you, Electron Boy," said defender Taylor Graham.
"You saved us!" exclaimed forward Nate Jaqua.
"Good job, big man," said defender Tyrone Marshall. And forward Steve Zakuani mutely bowed his thanks.
Electron Boy seemed a little dazed by his powers. Out on Qwest Field, the Sounders gave Erik a hero's congratulations, posed for pictures and gave him a jersey and autographed ball.
Everyone was startled when, overhead, the Jumbotron crackled to life.
"Electron Boy, I am Dr. Dark and this is Blackout Boy," sneered an evil voice, as the villain — Edgar Hansen, and his sidekick Jake Anderson, both of Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" — taunted the young superhero. "We are here to take over Seattle and make it dark!"
On the Jumbotron, a video showed a Puget Sound Electric employee Jim Hutchinson trapped in the top of his bucket truck in front of PSE's Bellevue headquarters. Only Electron Boy could save him.
As Electron Boy's motorcade — the DeLorean, the 25 motorcycle officers and a white limo — rolled through downtown Bellevue, pedestrians stopped in their tracks and pulled out their cameras to take pictures. Clearly, somebody famous was in town. But who could it be?
"It's Electron Boy," Erik's older sister, Charlotte Foote, shouted out the window of the limousine.
More than 250 PSE employees gathered outside the company's headquarters and cheered as Electron Boy freed the trapped worker. "It was so loud, people in office buildings were looking out the window," said Make-A-Wish communications director Jeannette Tarcha.
But Dr. Dark and Blackout Boy were still at large. Electron Boy got a tip that the evil duo were at the Space Needle, where they had disabled the elevator and trapped people on the observation deck. Racing back to Seattle, Electron Boy stepped out of the DeLorean to a cheering crowd of dozens of admirers, and confronted his nemesis.
"How did you find us, Electron Boy?" Dr. Dark demanded.
Erik wordlessly leapt at Dr. Dark with his lightning rod, freezing the villain. Then he unlocked the elevator and freed the people trapped upstairs.
Bellevue police Officer Curtis McIvor snapped handcuffs on Dr. Dark and Blackout Boy, who couldn't resist some last words: "How can we thank you for saving our souls?"
A tiny smile played around Electron Boy's mouth. Just for good measure, he held his lightning sword to Blackout Boy's throat again. The crowd went wild. "Hip-hip, hooray!"
Seattle City Councilwoman Sally Bagshaw stepped forward with a key to the city and a proclamation that Thursday was Electron Boy Day. Afterward, Erik posed for the TV cameras, flexed his muscles and spent some time astride a Bellevue police motorcycle.
"He's over the moon," said Foote. "This is definitely beyond anything we thought it would be."
Watching her son run across the plaza in front of the Space Needle, mom Judy Martin said Erik goes to school when he's able, but is often too tired. "He hasn't had this much energy in a long time," she said. "They called it the power of the wish, and they're right."
Like any good superhero, Electron Boy kept his innermost thoughts to himself. But he did have one important thing to say:
"This is the best day of my life."

I kinda really completely hope someone makes this into a comic book.

      Are You Kidding Me?

I cannot even begin to express how much this makes me rage.

Jury acquits accused rapist because victim wore skinny jeans
A jury in Sydney, Australia acquitted Nicholas Eugenio Gonzalez of rape charges following the use of the so-called skinny jeans defense. Gonzalez's lawyer suggested the survivor would have had to have helped him remove her tight jeans, though she said this was not the case. The jury expressed belief that Gonzalez could not have removed the jeans without the woman's help.
The skinny jeans defense has gained popularity in recent years:
In 2008 a Seoul court overturned the seven-year sentence of a man convicted of raping a woman wearing skinny jeans. In the same year an Italian court upheld a rape conviction, ruling that "jeans cannot be compared to any type of chastity belt".
Advocates were quick to decry the reasoning behind the decision:
The chairwoman of the National Association of Services Against Sexual Assault, Veronica Wensing, said a woman's outfit should not be an issue in alleged rapes. ''Any piece of clothing can be removed with force.''
Pinning a rape defense on any article of clothing smacks of slut shaming and victim blaming. I think focusing on the skinny jeans is meant to suggest that the survivor was dressed provocatively, which in turn is meant to imply she must have wanted it. I also reject the notion that a rape could not occur even if she did help remove the jeans - this could easily be taken in the moment so that the action did not become even more violent or simply out of fear. The notion someone cannot be raped because skinny jeans are too hard to take off is just absurd, and I'm disgusted that it's ever held up in a court of law.

On a side note, every once in awhile when I read articles like this I wonder how many people who are in the public eye; whether they be musicians, actors, whatever, have dealt with rape and/ or sexual assault. I know that it happens on a frightening level of regularity. I end up wondering how many of them don't talk about it due to shame or fear because of things like this. So many people don't speak up because it's painful and a lot of times you end up hurting more because of things like stupid people thinking skinny jeans somehow can't be taken off by someone else (or that the victim couldn't have been threatened into taking them off herself for that matter). I'm so grateful for those that do talk openly about it and make people think about and acknowledge it. I'll stop ranting now since I've only had a couple hours of sleep and this is probably a giant mess that makes no sense.

      Too expensive to read

I went to Popular Book last week to buy some books for my little gal as her 4th birthday presents. I ended up spending more than RM30 on her books. They have sales so I got 20 to 50% discounts on children books. Thought of getting a novel since it has been a year I bought a book but after scouting from one book shelf to another, I could not find anything that interested me.

Or probably you can say the price did not fancy me much. The novels were expensive (from my point of view). Not much discount on novels. Wonder where I can find a good second hand book store in Kuching? There used to be one bookstore in Sarawak Plaza that sold second hand books at really cheap price (like RM5 per book) but they no longer have such offer. The books may be old but still in good condition. I used to patronise a book rental store when I was in my secondary school but that store has closed down many years. Sigh!

      Kitsch‘N’Mixer

What’s cookin’ now? A spin on retro for the kitchen. This collection, KitschNMixer, is another that I had at the show for those looking for kitchen art. It’s a little mod, it’s a little retro, and it’s just enough kitsch to be cool.

Here are photos of the display with a variety of ideas that any kitchen could warm up to. My favorite sample is the muffin tin and my favorite pattern is the ‘kitchen spinners’ which are varying colors and sizes of twirling utensils.

It is one of a variety of patterns that was also used for products I designed for C. R. Gibson and I believe they still have a few pieces from the collection on their website. You can look to the right on my blog under “looking for Sheri Berry” to be directed to the C. R. Gibson site for these products. Some of the products are shown below.

In order from top to bottom: Recipe Memory Book, Take Out Menu Organizer, Recipe Scrapbook, and Magnetic Weekly Calendar (on bottom right)
