Happy Bunday! October 31st, 2010
I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!! I've been in bed sick all day which isn't the worst thing ever but I was sad to miss all the Halloween festivities, it is my favorite holiday after all. That being said I'm really glad I got to go to the L5Ps Halloween parade before I was afflicted with this super cold (I've had it for 9 days now). My boyfriend and I are going to have our Halloween next weekend. I have a few treats for him ^_^ Halloween celebrations really last until Christmas (in my head anyway) so I haven't missed too much yet!

Monsieur Noir le Chat

We just got a kitten in time for Halloween, but he is not a cat noir and I don’t think he is French. He is a cute gray tabby, full of mischief, about three months old. He accompanies me to the studio each day and flip-flops (literally) between unruly frolicking and drop dead exhaustion. My keyboard seems to be the favorite place for those exhaustive bouts of slumber and the ultimate kitty toy for playtime. Well, actually, it’s the computer mouse he finds to be the toy of desire, as if he believes it to be the real thing. Hummm.
As I write, his little face is resting on the numbers of the keyboard. So, unless I start a career in accounting, I think I’m okay with this new arrangement. Liking it so far, anyway.
As to the art above, I suppose it is a bit like “life imitating art.” Oh, or is my art imitating life? Well, none the less as Halloween approaches I have a new little model to encourage creativity for the season. Who knows, maybe my next holiday collection will be Christmas Kitty :)

How To: Chocolate Skull Cupcake Toppers
(Skully Cupcakey Goodness)
And in case anyone is wondering the cupcakes I made came from this recipe: Guinness Chocolate Cupcake with Bailey's Cream Cheese Frosting
Anyway, onwards to the skull making!
(Jack and Sally are going to be our kitchen assistants today.)
You Will Need:
- White Chocolate Chips
- Dark Chocolate Chips
- A Baking Sheet
- Wax Paper
- Spoons
- Microwave Safe Bowls
- Toothpicks
- Scissors
- Plastic Baggies
- Candies and Other Embellishments (Optional)
Step 2: Put some of the white chocolate chips into one of your microwave safe bowls.
(I filled my bowl about half way for my test run.)
(The white chocolate will probably be a little bit on the thick side but that's ok.)
Step 4: Use a spoon to fill a plastic sandwich baggie with the chocolate. Close it up and then squeeze the chocolate towards one end. To get a good number of skulls you may have to melt more chocolate and fill multiple bags so have them handy.
(This can get very messy very quickly. You may want to put down newspaper where ever you are working.)
Step 5: Cut the corner you squeezed the chocolate towards off and viola, you have a make-shift icing bag! (If you already have icing bags and/ or tips you can use those instead. I'm sure you could come up with some really cool effects.)
(Plain plastic baggies worked surprisingly well.)
Step 6: Use your make-shift (or real) icing bag to make a basic skull shape.
(Ironically, I think my first skull was the best looking one.)
Step 7: Repeat until you have the desired number of skulls. I didn't count and ended up with less skulls than cupcakes (oops).
(If you are worried about uneven texture you could smooth them with a butter knife that has been dipped in warm water or use the backs, which will dry flat, for your main design.)
Step 8: While you let your skulls dry put some of your dark chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl.
Step 9: Microwave them until they're nice and melted. They shouldn't give you as much of a hard time as the white chocolate chips but I'd still suggest checking on them and stirring them a few times.
(The dark chocolate melts quite a bit better and is easier to work with.)
Step 10: Flip your skulls over so that you have the nice flat side then take a toothpick and coat them with dark chocolate. You don't have to do this step, I just thought it would be nice to balance the flavor of the white chocolate with some extra dark chocolate on the backs of the skulls.
(Messy, messy, messy...)
Step11: After letting your skulls dry again, flip them back over so you can start working on the details. I started by using a toothpick to create an outline of dark chocolate. It makes the white pop a little bit more.
(I made sure to cover all of the edges along the sides with dark chocolate as well.)
Step 12: Once that's done you can use a toothpick to create the face. There are a bunch of different ways you can do this. You can even incorporate candy, different colored icing, sprinkles, and pretty much anything you can think of.
(I was going to add M&Ms for the eyes but I liked the way they looked like this so I left them alone.)
Step 13: Either serve your chocolates as they are, use them to top some cupcakes, or do something else creative with them.
(Hurrah for cupcakes!)
(Yay!)

Music Monday: Haus Music
I've started a new Tumblr as a kind of side project. I was searching for music used during runway shows and I felt the need to explore the connection between fashion and music further. I'm not sure where exactly this project will take me but I'm excited to find out. I'll be delving into collaborations, inspirations, models turned musicians, musicians turned designers, on so on. If you're interested in the crossover between the two as well feel free to follow me at Haus Music on Tumblr.

My Halloween is full of treats!

It’s always fun to get treats in the mail, but even more exciting when the package is full of handmade goods. Well, this year my dear friend, Jill pulled together fabrics from the two halloween collections I designed with Northcott and sent me two sets of trick or treat banners to fashion-up my humble abode. She even sent my daughter her own personal banner for her dorm room to get her into the spirit of Casper.

The first is a teeny tiny banner made from the leftover snips she couldn’t bear to throw away. Who can toss even the littlest of fabrics? Not many of us, as proven over the years and years of handmade quilts saturated with leftover bits. Jill added tiny but very strong magnets to the ends of the banner so that I can hang it on my refrigerator in the house, or bring it over to the studio and decorate my filing cabinet for this holiday. Right now, it’s hanging with me in the office.
The mini banner above was made to entice her husband’s coworkers to grab a handful of candy corn when passing by. What a great idea, and one that could be used with seasonal fabrics throughout the year. I can’t wait to see the Christmas candy display. (that’s a hint, Jill, my mailbox will be waiting :)
The scraps come from this too cute, large banner Jill made complete with little eyelets at the ends of the banner to slip over nails and hang in the doorway between the living and dining room. This way, heading into either room gives us the opportunity to view the fun patters from both sides of the reversible banner.

The two collections used for these projects are from Trick or Treat Street and Costume Club. They can be viewed on Nortcott’s website or found at local quilt shops in your area and online quilt and fabric stores. The two collections were designed to work together, so if you picked up some prints last year from Trick or Treat Street, pull out those scraps and add a few from Costume Club and whip up your own banners this week. And don’t hesitate to thank Jill for the great, but simple halloween craft ideas.

Happy Bunday! October 24th, 2010
I hope everyone had a great weekend :) My Friday was really fun. My boyfriend and I got to hang out with my friend Nick and give him all of his birthday presents. The rest of the weekend has been ok except that I seem to have caught a cold. Basically I just slept a lot. I'm hoping that tomorrow I will be feeling better.

Almost toward the end
I could not believe it!
Hubby was telling me the other day that this year only left slightly more than 2 months! Wow! I could not believe my ears when I heard it. How time flies. There were so many things happen this year, that I did not have much times to breathe and relax. Lol!
First is my business. It has been 5 months since I operate my shop. Everything is on track, and slowly I can see my network is building too. It takes years to see the passive incomes that is substantial for me. Lol!
Anyway I am looking forward to the remaining 2 months of the year. Why not? A lot of festival and special events happening, such as hubby's birthday in November. And it reminded me to get him a belt since he has been complaining and hinting that he needs a new belt. And school holiday is around the corner too. Even my girl is reminding me of her school holiday because she is going back to hometown during the holiday. I wonder whether she would be celebrating Christmas in Kuching or not this year, but nevertheless I shall stand-by her present.
When it comes to a year end, you will start to think back what you have done and what you are going to achieve in the new year. Yes. Time to set your resolution. But it is pretty hard to achieve what you want to achieve, right? I learnt my lesson from past years that never to set high resolution for myself if I never really think on how to achieve it in first place. So a moderate resolution would do. Hmm, have not really thought of what I want to achieve next year. How about you? Have you think and plan about it yet?

Helping The Kyrie Foundation

I usually post information about my latest work and share a few designs on this blog, but tonight I have a much greater cause that I want to share with you.
The Kyrie Foundation brings awareness, funding, families and scientists together to help cure pediatric brain cancer. This foundation began a few years back, after the loss of little 19 month old Kyrie battling with this cancer. She was the niece of a dear friend of mine and this cause is very dear to her heart. I am sure that I cannot do the foundation justice with my words and therefore want to encourage you to look at the sites I have available and hope that you can help make a difference for other children battling this disease.
Here is how you can make that difference over the next ten days. The foundation is eligible for this month’s $250K Pepsi Refresh Everything grant. It has reached 6th place to date and has until October 31 to have votes cast for it, and hopefully become one of the top two positions to receive this grant. The only thing needed by you is the willingness to vote and a few brief minutes in your days. It is simply a matter of being able to click a mouse or text in a vote! ;)
Here are the three ways you can help; you can vote these 3 ways every day until October 31:
1) Text 103447 to 73774
The Kyrie Foundation will always be there, but this opportunity to help in what seems like such a small way will not be after October 31. What is such a simple task over the next few days could become an enormous contribution for the foundation to help others. Below are sites which will give you a better understand about the foundation and the families who are helped through it. Thank you in advance for your support.

Try catering
For the past week, we have been taking food from caterer. We have a recommendation from a friend on this caterer, Mrs V so we decided to give her a try for a month. RM320 per month on Monday to Saturday (except PH) for 3 dishes and a soup for dinner. So far the dishes are okay; she does not stick to same dishes.
It is much easier for us now. We do not need to worry on what and where to eat. Even with the food court and nearby SCR, we are bored of the food now. It is more economical to have food catering too. Now hubby is taking the food with us since my 2 lady staff are not that big eaters. *wink*

Music Monday: The Doors- Break On Through (To The Other Side)
There's not much I can say about The Doors that hasn't been said before. Ever since I took my parents Best Of album when I was 17 they've been one of my favorite bands for reasons that are probably obvious. Break On Through (To The Other Side) is the first song on that two disc set. No matter how many times I hear it it's still just as powerful. The use of keys is probably one of my favorite aspects of their music. It definitely gives them their own feel. Their music is magical and still fresh sounding to this day. It's wonderful and I've never found anything that can quite compare.

Happy Bunday! October 17th, 2010
I hope everyone had a great weekend. My weekend was really really fun. I went to a Halloween parade and hung out with some friend and worked on some birthday things for another friend. I'm hoping that this next week will be really productive and I'm looking forward to it :)
Ranting on a Sunday
First, not many customers today. Probably it is the middle of the month thinggie, so I accompanied my sister for a hair treatment this afternoon. She did her digital perming, and damages done was RM140.00. Actually I just came back from a near by hair salon. RM80.00 for a 4-steps treatment. If I am not mistaking, the girl said it consists of shampooing, treatment for follicles, then treatment for protein and lastly steaming and shampooing.
I will go there again since they have manicure and pedicure. Since middle of this year, I have not have time for myself, not to say pampering myself. So I will visit the salon for its manicure other day. There are 3 salons around within and outside the shopping mall. I visited one 2 months ago. Sh*t! After that visit, I never visited it again. Why? Because they smoked. Yes, you heard me right? They smoke in the shopping mall, and sometimes in their salon. I went there for hair wash and my! My hair smell of cigarette because the guy that did it for me was smoking before taking over from a lady. I wonder why the management did not bother on those smokers as it is an air-conditioned building. I even heard some of my customers and other tenants commented on their smoking habit.
Second, I am addicted to my new Blackberry Curve. Hubby is activate the Blackberry messenger so he and I can text each other for free. If I am outside, then I can check my email and Facebook via the phone. So convenient. And hubby has a good laugh when I told him that just after a week, I am not used to the cursor of his Sony Ericsson phone. Lol! I still love Sony Ericsson because of its cybershot camera, but function-wise, I found out that Blackberry has so many great functions. No wonder I have so many friends now subscribed to Blackberry.
Okay, enough ranting from me. Now I am waiting for hubby and the kids. My girl hs been nagging us to bring her for a swim in our club house swimming pool, so as promise, we shall bring her and baby over. But I am not going into the pool, because I just have my hair done! *wink*

Beauty case for eyes and cheeks
I simply love this beauty case from LelanVital. The colours are very trendy and versatile that I can mix and match them for stunning effect.
Its 4 matte colours, 2 shimmery colours and 14 pearly colours makes a perfect gift or present for birthday or Christmas.

I tried it out last week, want to see whether it lasting or not. I have oily face so usually my eyeshadows do not last long at end of the day. Before I put on the eyeshadows, as usual I applied some foundation and concealer. The colours last longer than other eyeshadow I used before.

It is so easy to apply, even with its own brush or using my finger tip. I am happy with the colours; it is slightly better than other eyeshadow brand that I have used.

Music Monday: Nirvana- Heart-Shaped Box
Heart-Shaped Box is one of my absolute favorite songs and music videos. The lyrics are pretty but not classically so. The surrealist imagery in the video is as gorgeous as the colors are bright. It comes across as oddly peaceful and fits the mood of the song perfectly.
